BRIEF HISTORY
Us was started in 1997 by Nick Humphreys from the back of a car boot. After studying Marketing for 18 months he flagged his Tertiary studies. Sick of doing assignments on bogus companies, he drew down his student loan money buying skate gear and printing tees. "I started with $3000, a wad of stickers and flyers, 10 tees friends had designed, 15 decks my brother and I imported from the USA and my homework desk"
Since then Underground skate has become Us. Moving shops three times and refitting each store twice. The Underground Crew of friends and team have developed Orewa and Stanmore Bay skateparks. Their team over the years has been rated as one of the best in NZ, winning every division of the Nationals. Underground Skate has always been about ‘our community’, hence the name US. It represents us, the ‘jackass’ generation of young people who like to have fun, push the rules and enjoy our lives. ‘if you know what US stands for, then you are apart of US.’
In 2008 the Us crew covers all area’s so board sports with and amazing Team of Staff and Riders. This year alone our team riders have represent Us and NZ in many levels. Snow Team rider James Hamilton placed 3rd at a World Cup Halfpipe final in Europe. Surf Team rider Tom ‘TK’ Kibblewhite came 2nd in the NZ Surf Nationals in the long board division, Plus Skate Team riders Kayle Lawson and Christian Low have been filming and winning comps pushing the Us brand even further.

Never turning its back on the people who have shaped the shop, Underground will never abandon it history to become a corporate machine. Its quality and expertise stems from its long-standing progressive reputation in the industry. From running camps, snow rail comps on the beach, and team sponsorships, its reach goes far and wide. Constantly pushing the envelope and always going bigger… Us understands the community. There is hardly a place on the shore where US is not represented and this is a direct result of the community it has and still is seeking to build in the rapidly growing and changing industry…."
